Richard Lakota

Richard Lakota

August 20, 1942~May 04, 2026

Richard passed over into Glory on May 4, 2026, and while we will miss him right now, we won’t be far behind him!

He is survived by his wife, Annette Lakota of 20 years, 2 daughters; Connie Marshall Westerfeld and husband, Don Westerfeld, and Cathy Hernandez; and surrogate son, Jeffrey Wiles and wife, Johanna. Also 6 grandchildren; Chad Marshall and wife, Katie Maxwell Marshall, Carson  Mitchell and husband, Cole, Chase Wiles and wife, Caitlin, Christian Peters, Adam Bridges, and Stacy Thomas; as well as 10 great grandchildren; Carter Marshall, Cole Marshall, Cash Wiles, Benny Wiles, Ellie Wiles, Bentley Bridges, Colton Bridges, Hailey Bridges, Tucker Thomas, and Payton Thomas.

Richard was a true patriot at heart, having served many years in the Special Forces, making that sacrifice for many, but even after he was discharged, he continued to be a Sergeant in Arms, teaching others the correlation of life to life in the military and was very successful at it!

He was a teacher at heart from the time he was a kid, but loved teaching the Word of God most of all and seeing the light come on when someone met Jesus for the first time and realized that victory was achievable!

He traveled all over the world, not only during his time in the military, but also as a minister and missionary.  His zest for life always brought joy to others and gained him love and respect all over the world!

Celebration of Life

Fraternal Order of Police Hall

We will gather and share our favorite stories about Richard; food will also be served.

No dress code, just be comfortable; and as Richard always said, “When I’m gone, throw me a party”; so that is what we are going to do!

It was truly an honor to meet Richard. We actually met through such a funny and unexpected encounter during a routine doctors visit. As he was telling us his stories, I suddenly asked, “Is your wife’s name Annette?” He looked at me in disbelief and said yes. I smiled and said, “I do her hair!” That’s how we met. He was so encouraging and fun to talk to. I’ll never forget that moment. Sending you so much love, comfort, and prayers. 🤍

Annette where do I begin. When I met you guys at Publix some years back, I knew Richard was one of a kind. From the moment he comes in you can hear him a mile away 🤣if he wasn’t calling me a knuckle head or big dummy then something was wrong with him. I looked forward to his visits because every time he left, I always had a big smile on my face. I loved when he would come in and talk about the Lord. He had so much knowledge in that head of his, he had an answer for everything. I will miss everything about him especially when he would come up to me and scare the daylights out of me when I wasn’t looking and I would mumble some not so nice words 🤣I could go on and on about what an incredible man he was but I’m sure you already know. I will miss our conversation but I know I will see him in heaven again. What a glorious day that will be. Love you my friend 🩷
