Myrna Sylvia Dorraine Pitts (née Hendy), affectionately known to many as Doreen, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, in Riverview, Florida, just three days before her 86th birthday.
Born on July 16, 1940, in Belize, Doreen was the beloved daughter of William Henry and Berta O’Brien. She was born and raised in Belize, where she developed the values of faith, education, service, and compassion that would guide her throughout her life.
Doreen began her career in education as a pupil teacher at Wesley School in Belize City. She later attended Teachers’ Training College, where she became a certified teacher. Throughout her distinguished career, she served with dedication in several schools as a principal, earning the respect and admiration of fellow educators, students, parents, and the communities she faithfully served. Her leadership, wisdom, and commitment to education left a lasting legacy on countless lives.
A devoted member of the Belize Methodist Church, Doreen dedicated herself to the work of the church and faithfully participated in its ministries and activities. Her unwavering faith was evident in her service to God and her community. She also had the honor of representing the church at conferences and other events, always serving with humility and grace.
Doreen shared a loving marriage with her beloved husband, Ned. Together they enjoyed traveling to many destinations around the world, creating treasured memories along the way. Even during the challenges of Ned’s illness, her love and devotion never faltered. Encouraged by her husband and family, she continued to serve others while remaining a faithful and devoted caregiver.
Above all, Doreen cherished her family. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished sister, sister-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and dear friend. Her kindness, generosity, wisdom, and gentle spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She welcomed family and friends into her home with warmth and hospitality, leaving each person with memories they will forever treasure.
Doreen leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, education, love, and integrity. Her life stands as an example of compassion, perseverance, and unwavering dedication to God, family, and community.
She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, countless friends, former students, and colleagues whose lives she enriched through her love and service.
Though our hearts grieve her passing, we take comfort in knowing that her life was one of purpose and faith. The memories she gave us, the lessons she taught us, and the love she shared will continue to inspire generations to come.

Today my heart is filled with sadness as I remember my dear friend, Myrna Pitts.
Our friendship began many years ago when we were both teachers at Wesley Lower School. She was an experienced teacher, and I was just beginning my journey in education. Over the years, our friendship only grew stronger. We worshipped together at Wesley Church, worked together when she later became our local manager, and remained close long after retirement.
Some of my fondest memories are of spending time with her after Friday choir practice, sharing meals together, and enjoying her warm hospitality. Whenever I returned to Belize after Christmas, one of my first visits would be to her home, where we would spend time together over a slice of her famous black cake—the very best anyone could make.
Mrs. Pitts, was a remarkable woman: loving, caring, generous and down to earth. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome and loved. To me, she was not only a treasured friend but also a mother figure whose kindness and encouragement I will always cherish.
I thank God for the privilege of having known her and for the many beautiful memories we shared over the years. She lived a life that touched countless hearts, and her legacy of love and kindness will never be forgotten.
My sincere condolences and prayers are with her family during this difficult time. May God surround you with His peace and comfort.
