Mary Jane Gonzales
May 1, 1938 – September 14, 2025
Mary Jane Gonzales, affectionately known as “Nanny” to her grandchildren, passed away surrounded by love and memories. Born on May 1, 1938, in Tullahoma, Tennessee, she brought light and laughter into the lives of everyone she met.
Mary had the rare gift of making strangers feel like friends and friends feel like family. With her quick wit and boundless warmth, she was never short on conversation—though getting a word in edgewise was considered an accomplishment. Her days were often filled with baking, crocheting, and sharing stories over a good cup of coffee. After retiring, she and her beloved husband, Ernest “Ernie” Gonzales, settled into a peaceful life in Tennessee, where their home became a welcoming place for all.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Ernie, her mother Mary Evelyn Kilgore, her father Robert E. Kilgore, her sister Bobby J. Williams, and many dear friends. She is survived by her brother, Bobby Kilgore; her daughters, Nancy Levy, Cindy Pittman, and Judy Dierlam; four grandchildren—most especially her devoted grandson and longtime caregiver, Carl Levy Jr.; and four great-grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and joy.
Mary leaves behind a large extended family and countless friends who will miss her humor, generosity, and unshakable spirit. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and the power of connection.
“To care for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honors.”

My condolences to the Gonzales and Levy family. Mary was a wonderful sister-in-law to me. Many great memories of Buccaneer games, working with her and endless card games. When she and Ernie moved to Tennessee, we had weekly phone calls that would last at least an hour or more. I may have said 20 words the whole time. She was a people person, great cook and baker. Most importantly, she loved her family. Carl, Jr. was her pride and joy and later he was shared with Tasha and Destiny. I love you Mary.
