Bertran Sampson, known warmly to everyone as “Bert,” gained his wings and entered eternal rest on April 2, 2026, in Tampa, Florida. He was 72 years old.
Bert was a man of quiet strength and a fierce protector of those he held dear. He dedicated 30 years of service to Southern Wine & Spirits, a testament to his unwavering work ethic and reliability. But to those who knew him best, Bert was so much more than his profession. He was the heart of his family—the ultimate “joker” who could find a reason to smile in any situation, and whose infectious laugh was a melody his loved ones will carry with them forever.
A true outdoorsman, Bert found joy in life’s simple, beautiful moments. Whether casting a line while fishing, enjoying the scenery on a long drive, or carefully tending to his yard, he moved through the world with a steady and peaceful presence. He was a master of the grill, bringing people together with good food and even better stories. Most importantly, Bert was someone you could always lean on steadfast, dependable, and ready with a helping hand or a word of wisdom.
He leaves behind a legacy of love in his devoted wife, Verna Sampson; his children, Shakeitha Sampson, Sarina Randall, Tanyale Harris, and Bernard Sampson; and his cherished grandchildren, whom he adored. He is also survived by his siblings, Walter, Darlene, Vernon Dempsey, Gerald, and Ella, along with a host of friends who became family.
Bert is reunited in eternal peace with his mother, Louise; his sister, Gail; and his beloved sons, Bert and Elijah, who he held in his heart every day.
His kindness was a gift, and his life was a blessing. Though he is no longer with us in person, his spirit lives on in every lawn he perfected, every fish caught, and every laugh shared in his memory.
